Government Issue – “Crash” LP

The fifth studio album by the Washington DC hardcore-punk pioneers, released on Giant records in 1988. An unusual album in that this also happens to be both their final recordings and also one of their best. Certainly my favourite GI album. A great mix of well written melodic hardcore plus all the other influences – psychedelia, hard-rock/metal –  that had been discreetly snuck-in amongst their previous recordings. It all makes sense when you consider the line up at this stage – John Stabb and guitarist Tom Lyle had gathered together a formidable rhythm section in drummer Peter Moffett (later Wool, Burning Airlines) and also a young J Robbins, who at his point was just getting warmed-up before launching Jawbox. Check out the Rollkicker Laydown 7″ and then the bridge between GI and Jawbox makes even more sense.
