Wrong War / Compulsion – Split LP
Compulsion are a Chicago-based band, formed in 2023 and composed of members of bands like Los Crudos, Charles Bronson, Punch in The Face, Compressions, and Full On. There’s is a style of hardcore that draws musical inspiration from the harsher side of the SST and Touch & Go back catalogues (straight off, the vocals sound like John Brannon, guitar solos like Greg Ginn), and they keep it fast and ferocious. Wrong War formed in Chicago in 2019 and after their previous 7″ EP, 12″ EP and full-length album have become well established fixtures in the modern hardcore punk world. Featuring Matthias Weeks on lead vocals (of Council Records and the widely influential bands Current, Calvary, and Ottawa, joined by two members of Chicago five-piece, The Phenoms. They are influenced by the Chicago and Detroit scenes they came up in, with additional nods to classic DC punk and the Dischord Records releases of that time.
