Venom Prison – “Samsara” LP
Their second full-length. A twisted, technical assault of metal riffs and beats with unrelentless, throat-lacerating dual vocals, that avoid delivering the usual boy’s-own, death metal tropes for something more visceral and politically aware (issues of of gender identity, mental health and social injustice). A little more shredding on the guitar than I would care for, but still far, far removed from the travisty that is melodic death metal. And although the hardcore-edged grindcore is less evident, the brutality and musical wizardry is still 100% intense.
