The title says pretty much all you need to know – a comprehensive selection from the battalions of underground freaks that forged the proto-metal and proto-punk sounds of the late sixties/early seventies, collectively inspired by the success of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pretty Things etc. no doubt. Some obvious choices: The Deviants, Budgie, Leaf Hound, Stray, Jeff Beck, Atomic Rooster, Edgar Broughton Band, and then dozens more equally worthy of exploration; with tracks taken from albums, B-sides and quite a few that are previously unreleased. Fifty three tracks in total, compiled on three CDs and housed with a 36 page booklet in a clamshell cardboard box.
