The title says pretty much all you need to know – a comprehensive selection from the battalions of underground freaks that forged the proto-metal and proto-punk sounds of the late sixties/early seventies, no doubt collectively inspired by the success of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pretty Things etc. Some obvious choices: Mott The Hoople, U.F.O., Deep Purple, Pink Fairies, Uriah Heap, Hawkwind, Stray, Budgie, and then dozens more all worthy of exploration; with tracks taken from albums, B-sides and quite a few that are previously unreleased. Fifty three tracks in total, compiled on three CDs and housed with a 40 page booklet in a clamshell cardboard box.
