Understand – “Burning Bushes and Burning Bridges” LP
25th anniversary re-issue of their debut full length from the Southend post hardcore band that emerged after the demise of Stand Off. A staple of the early 1990s UK hardcore scene, they were good guys, deserving of 25 year rememberance release, for sure. Mixing the post hardcore of Quicksand and Fugazi with a touch of pop hookiness a la Senseless Things, they were kind ahead of the game, and plenty more bands followed the same template down the line. I guess we knew at the time that signing to East West was pretty much an act of self-sabotage – yes, it scored them good support slots, touring with Helmet and the like, but watching them a year earlier doing an electrifying set in the 1in12 Club’s canteen one saturday afternoon infront of ten people was far, far better. And if they had stuck with Armed With Anger you can’t help but think things would have panned-out better for them… Who knows…. But it’s good to have this album on board. They done good.
