Swirlies “What To Do About Them” LP
The big hitters of the American, first generation, shoegaze scene. Formed in 1990, this Boston (Massachusetts) indie rock group released their first full-length release through local label Taang in 1992. It collects the band’s earliest recordings from 1991 and 1992: their first three 7″ singles alongside previously unreleased tracks. Swirlies made a sound that was an interesting cross between lo-fi indie and shoegazing dream pop, and therefore are recommended listen for anyone who appreciates the first wave of bands that followed in the wake of MBV’s Loveless. Strangely enough, Swirlies first release (in 1991) was a super limited split tape with Dropdead! Not an obvious alliance, that’s for sure, but a very cool one. Although, good luck tracking down a copy – there were only 25 to 30 home dubbed copies made.
