Subculture – “Fred” 12″

Putting to right some unfinished business, the unreleased 1986 EP from the North Carolina’s hardcore-punk/crossover band. Recorded the year after their 1985 debut, I Heard a Scream, the six tracks that comprise Fred were left uncompleted and shelved when the band broke up later that year. Presented by Sorry Sate in their finished form for the first time, remixed from the original multi-track tapes. I can recall the Heard a Scream album from back in the 1980s, and this later recording sounds like a considerable improvement – featuring a fleshed-out lineup with a more ambitious and musically accomplished set of songs, and like their hometown heroes and mentors Corrosion of Conformity, this has stepped-up the crossover factor considerably. Safely ranking alongside SNFU, DRI and Attitude Adjustment, and easily an equal match for touring partners NOFX.
“Subculture were one of the only hardcore bands that blew NOFX off the stage… not only that… but they were the ones that named me Fat Mike!!!! Jerks!” – Fat Mike NOFX
