Oakland’s Spy continue to carve out their own niche in the modern hardcore landscape with six songs that they burn though in under ten minutes. Captured live onto tape by Jack Shirley at Oakland’s Atomic Garden in April 2024, eschewing the modern practice of individual tracking in favor of a more immediate, visceral approach that better represents their explosive live show. After an endless touring regime (with Gel, Full of Hell, Ceremony, Municipal Waste, Sunami and countless fests) not surprisingly, this sounds like a band exceedingly comfortable within their filthy, unwashed skin – a skin that increasingly bares a passing resemblance to their local antiheroes of yesteryear, Ceremony and Trash Talk. A band who know exactly how to do what it is they are doing, nailing it with the devastating precision of a well trained lunatic.
