Sensor Ghost – “Irritation on Demand!” LP
The debut full-length for this Washington DC trio, described by Dischord as ‘no-wave art-punk’, which is as name-tags go, a pretty cosy fit. A spikey, unorthodox take on modern punk, a US version of Black Midi vaguely comes to mind, but with the freaked-out sonics and creativity of the DC punk scene shining through (The Warmers, especially). Sensor Ghost’s three members have former/current projects that include Puff Pieces, Antelope, Weed Tree, Light Beams, Vertebrates, and Stigmatics. Recorded with Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios over a few feverish days in March of 2024. Move past your initial reaction – the vocal style is kind of challenging – and then absorb the song-writing, because this one is a definite grower.
