Rex – “3” LP
Lots of great records came out of the American underground in the 1990s on labels such as Touch & Go, Slowdime, Sub Pop, Thrill Jockey, Quarterstick etc. Among so much brilliant creativity the albums by Rex were overlooked maybe? I’m not sure – but I do know that this album, their third (thus the title), is an absolute gem, and I’m happy to discover that there are copies still available. With members connected to Codeine and June Of 44 – not suprisingly, its that dry, post-rock, ‘slowcore’ style that predominates, somewhere between Will Oldham and Boys Life. Wrapped in a comfy rug. Warm and mellow. But ever-so-slightly melancholic.
