Public Opinion – “Painted On Smile” LP
Head-bobbing melodic punk by way of post-hardcore dynamics. This is the Denvor-based band’s debut album. Ten tracks, recorded/produced by Militarie Gun’s Ian Shelton – which makes for a suitable allegiance, as stylistically the two bands share much in common. It’s shouty and melodic-sing-along in alternating turns, with plenty of outside-of-hardcore/punk influences smuggled-in here and there. Convulse is becoming more and more diverse, and yet this retains certain characteristic qualities that runs through all of the label’s releases. On this, occasion, add to the familiar Convulse formula a little Drug Church, Tittle Fight and Culture Abuse.
