Prisonnier Du Temps “Prendre Le Pouvoir Par La Force” LP
The solo project of Jacky Cadiou, the man heavily involved with many French punk bands of the last twenty years – Coupe-Gorge, Grisaille, Justice Divine, Syndrome 81 and many more. This is his second solo album as Prisonnier Du Temps (‘Prisoner Of Time’ – I admit, I looked it up, and then felt stupid for needing to), a follow-up to 2023’s Comme Un Lion En Cage. His place of origin is obviously hardcore punk via French street-punk/Oi!, and there is plenty of fast blazing aggression to be found here; similar to Home Front, you can also hear a clear progression into somewhere, while not exactly pop music, is, nonetheless, heavily laced with melody and anthemic choruses – hooked by your ears and then lodged firmly within your auditory cortex for permanent keeping. All loaded up with plenty of expressive anger, state-of -the-world-frustration and anti-fascist attitude. And those harmonic backing vocal remind me of Les Thug – a relatively obscure reference, perhaps – but, a very welcome one!
