Pegboy – “Strong Reaction” LP
Formed in 1990 by Larry Damore and Steve Saylors of the Bhopal Stiffs, plus John Haggerty of Naked Raygun, and Joe Haggerty of Effigies. The first of three albums released by these Chicago punk legends – they’re all worth owning, and the 12″s too (Fore is especially great, not least for having Steve Albini guesting on bass guitar), but Strong Reaction, (released in 1991), by my reckoning, is the one that is universally favoured and cherished the most. As a Pegboy recording it contains their biggest, most anthemic tunes, the best and chunkiest riffs, and the ballsier studio production. The reformed Pegboy came over and toured in 2023, and by all accounts they were superb – I think that alone is testament to the fact that they were an exceptional band, and will always remain so.
