Description
Pansy Division – “Deflowered” LP
The second studio album by the San Francisco pop punk band, released in 1994 on Lookout! Records, back on vinyl for the first time in twenty years..
A repress of an old favourite by one of the most creatively funny punk bands of all time. Cheap smut, sure – and who among us doesn’t love cheap smut? But also, some very funny and very smart word-play, on a par with Merseyside’s Half Man Half Biscuit – which is not an obvious comparison to make, but think about it. At the same time, on a musical level, Wedding Present also come to mind when I hear Deflowered, albeit mixed with that distinct 90’s Californian /Lookout! pop-punk sound, J Church, Cringer etc.
From a time when being queer was still a thing – with a lot of minds across the Western world that still had a long way to go on the journey to enlightenment. Like many queer comedians before them, Pansy Division must have have intuitively realised that humour was a powerful key to unlock faulty, trapped minds – to then drag ’em into the light of compassion and tolerance. For which they should be cherished and celebrated for every more. Punk rock heroes.
Following-on from their reissue of Undressed, Sounds Rad has proudly brought back Deflowered in all its bold brash, indie-pop glory. Remastered and featuring new, refreshed artwork.
