One Last Wish – “1986” LP
The bridge between Rites Of Spring and Fugazi, a short-lived band from Washington, DC, (one of the emo originals), formed in May 1986 and split up in January 1987. One last Wish were fronted by Guy Picciotto – still singing in a desperate, high-anxiety style that was closer to Rites Of Spring than Fugazi, if you get the distinction – backed by Brendan Canty on drums and Edward Janney on bass (both from Rites Of Spring). And joined by long-serving scene-player (Faith, Embrace etc) Michael Hampton. Their last activity as a band was the recording of a 12-song tape recorded at Inner Ear Studios with Ian Mackaye. Slated for release on Dischord, it got shelved after the band’s premature split. One track teasingly later emerged on the State Of The Union compilation LP of 1989, and it wasn’t until 1999 that all twelve tracks became available on a CD released by Peterbilt Records (later pressed onto vinyl by Dischord in 2008).
