ON BROKEN WINGS – “Some Of Us May Never See The World” LP

More than 20 years after its original release on Eulogy Records, this second full-length from this Massachusetts-based metalcore band finally gets the vinyl treatment. I admit, these guys passed me by first time around, and straight away I’m thinking to myself, my, what a  respectable rip-off of Jane Doe era Converge. But here’s the thing, on a deeper listen this album is a treasure trove of early 2000’s post-hardcore traits. Screamo, grindcore, beatdown, emo-indie are apparent, and all held together by some viciously tight beats and thoughtfully crafted riffing. On second thoughts, for a suitable comparison head in the direction of Cave In as much as Converge. You don’t want to band around the term ‘masterpiece’ too liberally, you might demean its value, but ‘overlooked gem’ definitely applies here. I totally get why Daze has sought out this record for a reissue.
