Offenders – “Endless Struggle: Millennium Edition” LP

The infamous Reagan-era hardcore band from Killeen, Texas, later relocating to Austin in 1980. Beer City has seized the opportunity to reissue their second album, (that was originally released by Rabid Cat in 1985), restored and remastered from the original tapes, with new liner notes by drummer Pat Doyle. Classy and classic. Anyone who ever said American hardcore was over by ’82 needs their head examined, their face slapped, and their bottom spanked, because this is one of the pinnacle (and pivotal) musical achievements of the 80s underground. Produced by the legendary Spot, an album that utilised the-then-new super-fast crossover/metal influences blending them into a protest punk formula, topped by the passionate vocals of the late JJ Jacobson (who was a pretty superb match to the style Ian Mackaye employed in Minor Threat). One of those records that will leave you breathless with the sheer exhilaration of its furious energy. Offenders were closely tied to friends and scenemates D.R.I. and M.D.C – with the late Mikey Offender generously providing his distinct (Rickenbaker) bass skills amongst all three bands at various times.
