Nuzzle “Follow, For Now” LP
The debut album by the Californian trio, originally released by Youth Strike Chord in 1995 in a pressing of 1,000 copies. Solid Brass Records and Zum have teamed-up for the 30th Anniversary reissue, remixed from the original tapes by Liam Nelson and remastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios. “Recorded in a sweaty flurry at a vital moment in the 90s post-hardcore scene, the album is raw, loose, and fierce”.
My take: I don’t know why I didn’t catch on to Nuzzle back in the 90s – I truly dig them now, and I would have loved them hard back then. I guess at that point in time I was too busy overdosing on Christie Front Drive and Assfactor 4. Nuzzle are absolutely mid 90’s underground innovation personified – you can hear the post hardcore cleverness of Dischord (Lungfish, Hoover, Fugazi), the art school discordance of Unwound, the melodic sensitivity of Sunny Day Real Estate; and all elevated by a wild, punked-out, craziness that was in keeping with Antioch Arrow/Gravity Records, and – keeping in mind they also had releases on Troubleman Unlimited – the mighty Karp, as well. And that, gentlefolk, is a terrific combination.
