Nothing – “The Great Dismal” LP

Syrupy shoegaze with an aftertaste of dark bitterness – that’s the way of Philadelphia’s Nothing. Lulling you into a false sense of fragile gentleness… before launching into a heavyweight wave of loud, howling guitar. And with more than a spoonful of pop genius to help the misanthropic doom go down. Hmmm, lovely. Ten years down the line, their fourth full-length album “explores existentialist themes of isolation, extinction, and human behavior in the face of 2020’s vast wasteland”. Their first recording after the departure of founding member Brandon Setta, replaced on guitar by a member of Cloakroom; the band were also also recently joined by Aaron Heard (vocalist for Jesus Piece), consequently this album owns a fresh, new sound, making it – in my opinion – their strongest release so far.
