Mountain Caller – “Chronicle I: The Truthseeker” LP
Accurately self-described as a heavy progressive instrumental three-piece, “who are driven to tell stories with music and want listeners to conjure up cinematic scenes in their minds”. Which I think is a pretty cool approach to making non-vocal music. Recorded in January of 2020 at No Studio in Manchester, this London three-piece excell at creating heavy, dreamy, groove-ladden alternative rock. Do we call it ‘post metal’? Idontfuckenknow. it’s somewhere between Deafheaven, Elder, Russian Circles and Explosions In The Sky. As instrumentalists they have super-concentrated on getting the best out of their tools, and everything sounds really lush. This debut recording comes in a lavish gatefold sleeve with Moebius style artwork.
