Jawbreaker – “Dear You” LP
The fourth album by Jawbreaker, and their first (and only) major label one. I wasn’t too taken with this LP on its release in 1995, perhaps because the vocals were much more sung than before, and there is less angst and volume than their punkier past. But due to the not insignificant talent of songwriter Blake Schwarzenbach (best of his generation?), it has grown on me over the years, and now I loves it… Considering their combined talents, (plus the endorsement of Cobain/Nirvana), it has always been something of a mystery as to why Jawbreaker didn’t make it to the big-time… fate is bugger, and so Dear You remains one of the great unrecognised classics of American underground rock.
