Jawbreaker – “Dear You” LP
The fourth album by Jawbreaker, and their first (and only) major label recording. I wasn’t too taken with this LP on its release in 1995, perhaps because the vocals were much more sung than before, and it lacks some of the angst and volume of their punkier past. But due to the not insignificant talent of songwriter Blake Schwarzenbach (best of his generation?), it has grown on me over the years, and now I loves it… Considering the trio’s combined talents, (plus the endorsement of Cobain/Nirvana), it has always been something of a mystery as to why Jawbreaker didn’t make it to the big-time… fate can be a bugger… and so Dear You remains one of the great unrecognised classics of American underground rock.
