Description

Ithaca – “The Language of Injury” LP

A repress of 2019’s debut full length from this London outfit – a band who have outgrown the trappings of the commmercial style of ‘post hardcore’ (Autumn To Ashes, Poison The Well etc) and have absorbed the more cerebral and muscular influences of Botch, Converge, Oathbreaker and Code Orange. What lifts this album up and seperates it from the pack is the impressive vocal range of larynx-shredding vocalist Djamila Azzouz (similar to that of Eva Spence of Rolo Tomassi) – ferocious most of the time, but with clean, distant harmonies that will occasionally lead the rest of the band into a shoegazey-post-rock territory (which are the highlights of the LP). This is the 2021 version, reisued by Hassle Records (on recyled vinyl).
“…absolutely one of the most powerful, interesting post-hardcore acts around today, and on the basis of this record alone, they deserve to be massive.” – The Quietus
