Description
Ink & Dagger – Self-titled LP
The second album by the highly influential vampire/horror themed hardcore band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, released in 2000 posthumously after the band’s demise the year before.
Originally released on Buddyhead Records in 2000, and a fitting tribute to vocalist Sean McCabe who tragically died that same year (although, for this recording session, apparently he was less involved, and some of the vocals are by the bass player). As much as I loved Drive This Seven Inch Wooden Stake Through My Philadelphia Heart and the 1998 album The Fine Art Of Original Sin, I know nothing about this self-titled album – I don’t remember it at the time of it’s release, and I haven’t heard it on line ever since. I hear that it took their psyhedelic hardcore up to another level, with My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3 playing a role in terms of influence.
“…this was the Ink & Dagger’s final form and statement, a murky, swirling, psychedelic soundscape that defied all category, a cryptic preview of a future that never came.”
