The UK’s premier experimental electric guitar band have released their new (2026) album – and it’s their 15th. Respect is due. A-near-eternal spring flowing forth with new creative ideas, frothy and burbeling. An au naturale spring? Nope, probably not – tainted slightly with some kind of non-identifiable chemical unpleasantness. The bandcamp bio mentions musical references that were discussed in the studio session – from Fugazi to The Associates to Stereolab to Rolling Stones and plenty more (good call on Louisville’s Evergreen) – all of which, weirdly, are apparent when you give this broad sweeping recording a listen. The content, as ever, is rich and varied, and yet there’s that distinct Hey Colossus element at the core – its been their for bloody eons now, quite the permanent fixture in our collective musical landscape, but one that is tucked away in a discreet wooded gorge, somewhere in Somerset. No National Trust signposts. Let the dogs off their leads.
