Description
Garden Variety self-titled LP
The repress of a very popular album from the early 1990s by the Long Island trio. Garden Variety exploded-out from seemingly nowhere with a debut album that was packed with both a hyper energy and a strong melodic sensibility. Released by Gern Blandsten in 1993, it perfectly hit a spot where fans Born Against and Rorschach were perhaps craving something less harsh, if only for a moment, but at the same time found those post-Replacement/Husker Du bands (like Doughboys, Lemonheads, Soul Asylum), just a little too mainstream. Revved-up on Jawbreaker, Drive Like Jehu, Rites Of Spring, this was a band that pumped some well deserved melody back into hardcore, and consequently ended-up sounding like a younger, angrier Superchunk. Which was not a bad end result, at all.
