The Fall Of Troy”Doppelganger” LP
This was the second album by the (then) young Washington (State) post-hardcore three-piece and it was originally released by Equal Vision in 2005. I can’t lie and pretend that I was up on what Equal Vision were releasing in the early noughties, as their redirection – commercial, progressive, whatever it was – didn’t really connect with me, however, at that point in time, I did listen to Mars Volta a lot, and Mars Volts are the immediate comparison to spring to my mind on hearing this reissue by The Fall Of Troy (and hey, none of Mars Volta’s indulgent, experimental passages – bonus!). On listening to this album the bands’s Seattle neighbours, Minus The Bear, floated back into my psyche, too. And back then I liked screamo bands with mathy time signatures – like Hot Cross – as well. I’ve always got time to discover overlooked bands and their records from time’s past. Who doesn’t? I’m into this. Apparently, four of the songs on this album were re-recorded versions of tracks from the self-titled album, hence the title Doppelganger.
