EmbitteredĀ – “Infected” (Discography 1989 – 1995) Double LP
Almost thirty years later, the discography by Middlesbrough’s anarcho-punk grinders. A dual-vocal, black-clad variation on protest punk, formed by members of One 2 One and Malediction. Embittered opted for a sludgey heaviness (rather than the crossover metal that so many of the previous generation followed), a style that was emphasised by their pairing with Oakland’s Dystopia for a split LP released by Misanthropic records in 1993, the tracks from which feature here on this double album; along with the And you ask why? Demo from 1991, the “2nd Demo”, the Split 7″ with Belgium’s Hiatus (Desperate Attempt Records, 1993) and the final recording, released by Eccocentric in 1996, the Choke EP.
Documenting a pivotal moment in UK punk history – there were a few other ‘E’ bands at this time (Extinction Of Mankind, Energetic Hellkrusher and Excrement Of War), a small but enthusiastic scene, and a self-contained cultural secret. In the instance of Embittered, future offshoot bands were Manfat, Sawn Off, John Holmes, War All The Time, and countless other bands from the North East.
