A reissue of a highly influential, landmark album from 1992 that comes burdened with the very recent news of the passing of Rick Froberg, dropping his body and leaving the planet (in a bullet train) on June 30th 2023. Very sad, the loss of one of underground music’s true heroes.
Following the demise of Pitchfork, and ahead of the formation of Hot Snakes and Rocket From The Crypt, there was Drive Like Jehu – super-charged post hardcore that took the DC sounds of Fugazi and Soulside, added a little Sonic Youth guitar-dissonance, and then mixed it with the mathy and hectic flavours of their hometown San Diego scene. This debut LP was also their finest moment. A career pinnacle for all concerned. And yeah, your kids are fucking in your garbage.
