Discharge “Warning: The Singles 1983-1985” LP

The in-between period for Stoke On Trent’s pioneers of hardcore punk – the bridge from State Control to A Grave New World – as documented on four EPs released by Clay Records, from ’83 to ’85. Even though the heavy metal influence was increasingly flooded their sound, and ultimately leading to their full capsizing in 1986, the Discharge of the first half of the decade were, none the less, true innovators, and those hard-groove metal riffs were way ahead of their time, sounding even better with hindsight. Admittedly, there’s no denying, Calv’s screech can get a little grating on a couple of the tracks. It was a misguided affectation, harsh ly judged for evermore. But by contrast, Rainey’s non-stop, space-filling basslines are an OTT marvel that never sounded better. And, to be fair, on the whole, you can’t fault the musicianship displayed by all band members on these recordings.
This twelve track US reissue by Puke N Vomit Records compiles together 1983’s The Price Of Silence and Warning, Her Majesty’s Government Can Seriously Damage Your Health; along with the extended versions of  The More I See (1984) and Ignorance (1985).
