Deafheaven – “Infinite Granite” Double LP
For their fifth album Califonian’s Deafheaven have taken the screamo-goes-emo path, shifting them away from the black metal of previous albums, and securing themselves a place that is entirely within shoegaze/indie rock/post-hardcore territory. So does that make ‘blackgaze’ a term of the past? (I hope so). The change lies primarily with the vocals, which are now completely sung, (kind of like an indie rock style from times past); while the rest of the band essentially continue to do what they have always done: Explosion In The Sky-style dreamy melodies that build into dense, distorted, Envy-like crescendos.
