Crazy Clue “Where The Dregs Dwell” LP
The debut release by a new, international project (or are they a fully legit band – I don’t know?). Fronted by the super-prolific force of un-nature, Mr. Bobby Cole (of the north of england, plus Annihilated, Total Con, etc.) backed by Mike and Jonah from canada’s Fucked Up. To quote the bio: “a full-length of ear-damaging, fizz-thud clunk and squeal, paved with anguished cries and dotted with gloriously wrong sounds, cheap techniques, and luxury results”. The bio also makes mention of N.O.T.A., Rebel Truth, Pig Children (who were they? a new name to me, for sure) and Totalitar… which – I dunno -I don’t disagree with those comparisons… but here’s the thing, what I like most about this band is they play hardcore punk that is completely of its time. Not the past. Every time I mention modern hardcore punk, 90% of the time it will also inevitably include a reference to an American band of the 1980s. There’s now’t wrong with that, per se, but what I love most about this 12″ is its ear-grabbing freshness. And those afore mentioned “gloriously wrong sounds” – they really help-out in the process of achieving that end-goal of sounding wonderfully original and 2026-new. Great record alert.
