Description
The Cool Greenhouse – self-titled LP
Post-punk smart-alec art-rockers from London with their debut full-length. Simple beats, cheap synth melodies and hooky repetitive guitars topped by dry, deadpan vocals – it all leads to an inevitable Fall/Mark E Smith comparison. Or maybe a cost cutter version of LCD Soundsystem. The humour and lyrics are totaly in the tradition of those rubbish, but very funny, indie bands of the ’80s like Half Man Half Biscuit, Ted Chippington and I Ludicrous (you couldn’t help but love them). If these guys aren’t a huge smash-hit with the 6music evening crew, why, then I’ll eat my Sleaford Mods records. Only joking. I don’t own any Sleaford Mods records. I’ve slightly underplayed the description for this album, it’s actually a really good listen, with an ear-pleasing lo-fi production courtesy of JT Soar. Lots of charm within. You know, second thoughts, forget the Mark E Smith/Fall comparison; this is more like Jonathan Richman/Modern Lovers.
