Constant Mongrel – “Living In Excellence” LP

The sounds of inner city Melborne, heavily influenced by an asortment of early 80s post punk. Perhaps a bit of even earlier proto-punk, too. The label-release information makes references to Chrome and The Electric Eels; from the vaults of the UK-circa-82: The Mob, Wire, Blitz and The Fall. All of which is pretty accurate, (I would add the Cravats, and, more contemporary, Shame and fellow Aussies, Total Control). And then a saxophone kicks-in, and I’m reminded of Bob Calvert. Which is a space-rock bonus. In fact, this is one of those releases that offers-up a broad range of plenty more band-spotter comparisons the further you delve into it. And all of them good. Consisting of members from Terry, Woollen Kits, Nun and Taco Leg, with several previous releases on RIP Society Records and Siltbreeze Records. 11 tracks recorded in 2017, with a sleeve art by a member of Total Control .
