Conflict “To A Nation Of Animal Lovers” 12″
Following-on from 1982’s Live At Centro Iberico (released by Xntrix), To A Nation Of Animal Lovers, the third 7″ by the London based anarcho punks, was released on Corpus Christi Records in 1983. Recorded at Southern Studios, it featured long term occasional collaborator, Steve Ignorant of Crass, on dual vocals. Considered by some to be Conflict’s finest EP – but it’s up against some serious competition (the anthemic Serenade Is Dead and the epic Mighty And Superior were waiting around the corner) – it was certainly a landmark record, bringing animal welfare issues to the fore with a level of militant urgency and passion unheard before. As with the House That Man Built 12″ reissue, Gav King (Conflict guitarist of the past 18 years) was given the task of remixing the tracks that were recorded 43 years earlier. Included within the box that held the ‘baked’ and digitalised original tapes was also the original mixes on ¼ inch tape – so Colin’s lifelong close mate, Sid Truelove (Rubella Ballet), agreed to remaster them, and so alternative mixdowns have been added to the 12″ version: side A has the original three tracks (remixed by Gav King) as well as an alternative dub mix of “Meat Still Means Murder!”; side B has the three original tracks remastered by Sid Truelove as well as three previously unheard early mixes.
