Conflict “The House That Man Built” 12″
The London band’s debut recording released by the Crass label in 1982. Recorded and mixed at Southern Studios by engineer John Loder and Crass’ Penny Rimbaud. Rimbaud, for better or worse, would often manipulate the sounds made by young street punks into something a little more diverse and expanded, maybe in line with his own creative vision. Meaning, on this occasion, that two of the tracks manage to sound like straight-up Conflict – fast, angry-as-fuck, proto-hardcore punk that we all became more familiar with as the 80s marched on; while the other two tracks are in keeping with the more post-punk leaning direction of Rimbaud’s Crass label.
In recent years the original tapes of their debut EP were ‘baked’ and digitised just before the passing of frontman, Colin Jerwood, and the job of remixing these four tracks were consequently handed to Gav King (Conflict guitarist of the past 18 years). This 12″ version also includes the same same four tracks on side B, but remixed by Sid Truelove (of Rubella Ballet).
