Coliseum “self-titled: 20th Anniversary Edition” LP
Their debut album that was originally released on Level Plane Records in June 2004, firing-up like a volatile mix of Wolfbrigade, Victims and Converge. I always considered this Kentucky-based trio to be a satisfying upgrade on what Hot Water Music were once doing – as in, rough-edged melodic rock with a DNA plugged directly into hardcore punk. But in the case of Coliseum, the energy, speed, aggression and heaviness were maxed-up to a much higher degree. Especially so on this debut album. Now remixed (by frontman Ryan Patterson ) and remastered as a 20th anniversary edition, in partial remembrance of original drummer, Matt Jaha, who passed away in April 2020.
