Christ On A Crutch – “Crime Pays When Pigs Die” LP
A truly great hardcore punk band from the Washington, USA area who were active in the late ’80s/early ’90s. Fast, angry thrash, but with additional embellishments and melodic flourishes, their second album, released by New Red Archives in 1991, had it all really. This was a time when the International hardcore scene was in a transitional faze, with not an awful lot going on – Neurosis, 108, Citizens Arrest, Reason To Believe, Swiz and a clutch of other bands released some strong albums, and Crime Pays… is a stand-out among them. Bizarrely, Christ On A Crutch featured a young Nate Mendel, before he started Sunny Day Real Estate, and later moving on to Foo Fighters.
