Chat Pile “Who Loves The Sun” LP
The third album by the Oklahoma City noise-rock quartet. Remaining as lyrically and sonically confrontational as they were before, but an additional concentration on hook-heavy songwriting gives it all a sense of progression and expansion. There are some well crafted sung/melodic moments, too.
A very 21st-century form of neurosis that has gorged heavily on the underground heavy noise of the 1980s. And it’s a heavily fertile scene to chomp-on into, with so many great labels (Touch And Go, Amphetamine Reptile, Blast First, Homestead) and so many great bands (Godflesh, Killdozer, Swans, Big Black, Flour, Rapeman, Head Of David, Helmet, Bastro). More recent references would be: KEN Mode, Young Widows, Dazzling Killmen and Helms Alee. All regurgitated by Chat Pile – not without their own sense of reinvention – in an exciting new splurge of angst-noise, formed through jack-hammer heaviness, piercing sheet metal guitars and anguished screams.
