Cat Power – “The Greatest” LP
A departure from the lo-fi folk-punk-blues of her earlier work, for the seventh Cat Power album, Chan Marshall followed in the footsteps of Elvis Presely and returned to her Southern roots and recorded in Tennessee, backed by a band of very well seasoned musicians, The Memphis Rhythm Band. The result is way more of a commercial crossover style and sound, especially compared to her indie/alt roots, but living up to its title, this record of 2006 is now widely considered one of the best recordings of the decade.
