Cat Power – “Free” LP
The sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Chan Marshall, released by Matador in 2003. A collection of 14 songs recorded from a year long on/off recording session that resulted in forty recordings in total. Many are sparse, guitar/piano/vocal, solo compositions, but Chan was accompanied on four songs by David Grohl on drums and bass, and an additional two songs feature the backing vocals of Eddie Darth Vadder, while Warren Ellis of Dirty Three plays violin on “Werewolf”. Which was nice.
