Car Vs. Driver “Deja Grateful” LP
A reissue of a great mid-90s album by these guys from Atlanta, Georgia. Car Vs. Driver were one of those bands who appeared in the wake of Fugazi, and the influences can often be heard on this debut, but, coming from a slightly younger generation you also get a strong sense of a more explosive and energetic hardcore influence that came out of the Old Glory/Heartattack/Ebullition scene – which is essentially the scene that the band and their label, Lunchbox, were part of, even though they were a little more melodic and tempered than their peers. And that was/is exactly their appeal. The clean guitar tone and the bouncy basslines also made connections to a long-past SST era, specifically the Minutemen. All in all, a great combination. And it is truly gratifying that one of my favourite melodic albums of the 90s has not been forgotten and that it is still cherished by someone out there in 2026. And here it is, a faithful reproduction of the original – thanks Stick Figure!
