Capricorns “Ruder forms Survive” Double LP
A surprise reissue from Rise Above Records, resurrecting one of the lesser known bands of the label’s back catalogue. Capricorns were a slightly mysterious instrumental prog-metal band from London that were active in the 2000s, and this was their debut full-length (originally released on CD format only, in 2005). Overlooked, perhaps, because the record label become better known as a launch pad for Cathedral and Electric Wizard; while these guys – who consisted of members of Fabric, Orange Goblin, Iron Monkey, 11 Paranoias, Dukes Of Nothing – opted for a mix of post hardcore, math-rock and progressive metal. Less Sabbath-doom; more Pink Floyd/Melvins and muscle. Primarily an instrumental album, except for one track, featuring a crazy-ass vocal contribution from Oxbow’s Eugene Robinson.
