Angel Olsen – “All Mirrors” Double LP
Her fourth album, and a further progression away from the bedroom folk of her early days (when she also did a sideline in backing Tim Kinsella of Cap’n Jazz, Owls etc. and also Will Oldham), bypassing the boisterous indie-rock and razzle-bedazzle of the previous two LPs, and heading into a darker, moodier state of being, complete with 12 piece string section. With Angel Olsen an album can be a mixed affair, there always seems to be a few songs (on first listens) that are hardwork, and lag a bit, but you are also guaranteed a clutch of songs that instantly elevate to unbeleievable heights of euphoric-meets-melancholic pop genius – and that’s why I love her records.
